How much do doctors make an hour?

These calculations are made based on data presented in the Journal of the American Medical Association (Dorsey. JAMA, Vol 290(9).Sept 3, 2003.1174). These are just estimates and obviously individual practices/physicians will vary.

You're a nurse!

These are some hilarious lyrics written by an RN to the tune of "You're a Jerk". See the video below first if you haven't heard the song.

Youre a Nurse!

Youre a Nurse! Youre a Nurse! Youre a Nurse! Youre a Nurse!

Nurse! Nurse! Nurse! Nurse! Nurse!

Nuuuuuurse

I'm so cocky with it, got my drug book out like rocky hit
Got my patients on my swag they lovin my scrubs like the new pixis just touch it and it turns on

And when the docs start coming and them orders I be needin'
Done my shift is over I'm leavin, she like where you goin' I ain't got coverage for my next shift
I said it's none of my concern and she yelled (youre a nurse!)

So I walked back the door, called the charge RN told her this is bullshit she said I just don't care
You know those docs don't know what's going on and need you to continue that nursin'
We was nursin' to the right, nursin' to the left, after 8 years them docs continue to be half ass

They like fareal nurse you love it but its sumthin the whole ward heard but all I could hear was

Wah wah wah wah youre a nurse
patients trippin' I gotta do somethin
I'm a nurse that why you alive
But aye do me a favor call me nurse one more time (youre a nurse)
I know
Youre a nurse (I know)

Congenital hypertrichosis lanuginosa "Werewolf Syndrome"

Congenital hypertrichosis lanuginosa (CHL) is a very rare syndrome characterized by excessive hair growth. Hypertrichosis can accompany certain genetic syndromes, or it can be induced secondarily by exogenous medications. Fewer than 40 cases are documented worldwide and the incidence of CHL ranges from 1 in a billion to 1 in 10 billion. Patients with CHL have growth of the lanugo hair (which normally grows on fetuses as a normal part of gestation, but is usually shed and replaced by vellus hair at about 40 weeks of gestational age) that increases in length and extent of involvement from birth to approximately age 2 years. Occasionally, the lanugo hair may be totally lost by the time the patient becomes an adult. A variant in which patients do not lose their lanugo hair over time is called congenital hypertrichosis universalis or persistent hypertrichosis universalis. No abnormalities of other organ systems are associated with CHL, although solitary case reports note abnormalities such as delayed tooth eruption, diffuse hamartoma of the arrector muscles, supernumerary teeth, glaucoma, aortic and cardiac valve abnormalities, and macromastia.

CHL is believed to be inherited in an autosomal dominant manner; most cases involve a familial component. The specific genetic abnormality in CHL has not been defined.

Treatment includes the use of hair-removal creams and shaving. Laser hair removal has been proposed as a treatment option.

The following is a preview for a discovery channel special on patients with CHL and Ambras syndrome.

You know you're a nurse when...

You know you're a nurse when you realize the world would be a nicer place if everyone was medicated.

Doctors at hospitals perplexed about National Nurses Week

NEWS BRIEF
Los Angeles, CA – Reports show that doctors on staff at various hospitals across the country are, on the average, severely confused about the concept of “Nurses Week”. National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6, also known as National Nurses Day, through May 12 each year. During this time, hospitals often arrange for free lunches, desserts and other festivities to commemorate the profession. Evidence shows that doctors often do not see the purpose of Nurses Week. “Why do they get an entire week devoted to them? What do they really do for patient care?” states Dr. Wes Lindbock the chief resident of general surgery at the University hospital. "I mean, I am the one that writes the orders. I see my patients at least once a day for up to 8 minutes on rounds! I sit and listen to them for 8 minutes at a time!! I doubt any nurse spends that much time talking to the patient.” Dr. William Whinthrop, also from the university hospital felt that Nurses Week was actually a week devoted to doctors. “It makes a lot of sense. Doctors don’t have time for celebrations and other nonsensical things like that. It is much easier to make the nurses celebrate for us.” The week concluded with a celebratory "thank you" party on each floor where the staff read off thank you letters from patients written for nurses. Dr. Whinthrop stated that many of those letters were probably for him.

Pfizer offers free expired drugs to recently unemployed customers

NEWS BRIEF
New York, NY- American pharmaceutical industry giant Pfizer announced today that they will be offering at least 20 different categories of expired prescription drugs free of charge to those who have recently lost their jobs and health insurance. "We know Americans are suffering and as an American drug company, we feel obligated to do our part to ensure the health of our citizens” stated Pfizer's Vice President of Marketing, Bill Wecken. Wecken further announced that although extracting expired drugs from large waste containers, bottling the individual drugs and shipping the bottles to drug distributors may cause the company to lose money, it is part of the company’s philanthropic mission to give back to the community. “Money was never a concern; we want our customers to be able to continue the vital expired medications they need, in a time of fear and uncertainty." The Pfizer spokesman stated that up to 50% of the expired medications are still effective. Pfizer’s marketing team hopes that the compassionate move may start to change the minds of millions who think drug companies are selfish and money hungry.
